You don’t have the time (or the willpower) to go out to the store to by ingredients for a made-from-scratch recipe, so what are you to do? The great thing about this technique is that you don’t need a terrible amount of baking skill to pull off this beautiful dessert! You can easily make this in a hurry and the presentation is absolutely lovely. Make sure to customize to whatever cake mix and frosting you prefer, and you can easily choose any berries that happen to be in season.

INGREDIENTS
– 2 boxes of any cake mix
– Frosting
– Any berries
– A cake stand
– A chocolate bar (optional)

DIRECTIONS
1. Bake any cake mix you’d like in two 9 inch pans.

2. Cut one cake in half and put it on your cake stand.
3. Take a hearty helping of icing and frost the top of your first layer.

4. Add a layer of berries.

5. Repeat until you’re out of cake!

6. Frost the top layer and finish off with some decorative berries and chocolate curls.

And just like that, you’ve taken something basic and turned it into something delectably fancy. And you didn’t have to be a baker to make this rustic, beautiful dessert.

Mixed Review: Crate & Barrel vs. Trader Joe's Cornbread : " 'The Trader Joe's cornbread was some of the best cornbread I've tasted, from a mix or otherwise.' Ever wonder about a boxed mix you've seen in the store? Is it any good? Could it replace something you'd otherwise make from scratch? Welcome to Mixed Review , where the whole point is putting boxed mixes to the test! —The Mgmt. This year, I thought it was time to revisit the cornbread basket by comparing two readily available specialty mixes: Crate & Barrel's Buttermilk Cornbread Mix ($8.95) and Trader Joe's Cornbread Mix ($2.69).
